Skype stopped working on Mom’s computer because Microsoft decided it was too old a version. So on my last visit getting Skype to work was on my “to do” list.
Turns out that with the version of the operating system on that Mac, Skype was at the latest Microsoft has. In other words to update Skype, the operating system first needed to be updated. If you are at 10.6.x on the Mac then you can perform a software update to get to 10.6.8. Version 10.6.8 gets you the Apple App Store updated enough that you can get the latest operating system. But to get to 10.6 from 10.5 or earlier you needed the install DVD which is only available via mail order from Apple.
But Apple rejected the post office box number address and said they would only ship to a street address. Since there is no mail delivery to the street address this seemed a bit dodgy but I gave it to them anyway.
A few days later the install DVD showed up in the folk’s post office box neatly addressed to me at the street number address. Apparently the small town post office people know enough to look at the last name and the street address and figure out that the match was close enough to that of the box holder and put it there.
Score on addressing flexibility:
Apple: 0.
Small town post office employees: 1
